Wuhan Citizen's Home

You may not have guessed by the name, but we had to go here to register for our residency cards.  Later on campus someone was taking a poll from foreigners asking if they should change the name of this building, and what we think of when we hear "citizen's home". Either way, it is a pretty impressive building.

Our Local Open Air Market

Here is where we have been buying most of our veggies for the week.

Some very fresh chicken:

We don't think these were for sale.

Can you guess what these are?

Wuhan Library

Around the city of Wuhan you can find these kinds of "vending machines", which allow you to check out and return books from many different places in the city.  We've seen them around a lot and even at a metro station.

A Restaurant on the Water

After visiting the botanical gardens, LJ took us to a beautiful restaurant that was actually sitting on East Lake.  These people enjoyed taking several pictures of Steph, who is extremely blonde; so we decided to get a snapshot of them too.

We were even serenaded by some traditional music. It was quite lovely.

Botanical Gardens

After getting our medical exams in Wuchang for our residency cards, LJ took us and our co-worker and friend, Steph, to a botanical gardens here in Wuhan.  The gardens were right on East Lake which is the largest city lake in China.

This is the Plum Blossom, which is the city flower of Wuhan and blooms in January and February. For that reason its called the winter flower.  We went in the end of February, so we were just in time to see it.

There was a very large indoor orchid garden. I'm not sure if we've ever seen so many orchids in one place.

There were also many ponds and creeks running through the gardens with several gazebos to sit and reflect.

Jianghan University

Here are some pictures of our university:

This is the administration building and the front gate.

This building houses the foreign language department, and Red has several classes here throughout the week.

This soccer field sits right in front of our apartment.

Hang laundry is a pretty typical sight around both campus and town.

热干面 Hot Dry Noodles

This dish is very specific to Wuhan.  They are called reganmian or hot dry noodles and are usually eaten for breakfast. The typical bowl of reganmian will have soy sauce, sesame paste, pickled vegetables, chopped garlic chives and chili oil.  We tried them at a place across the street from our university one morning with some other foreign teachers.  Very yummy breakfast.
