Easter Sunday

For Easter we had a picnic in a park with our foreign fellowship.  We ate lots and played soccer and some other sports.  It was a good time.

An Attempt to Eat Dog

We went with some friends to a restaurant that supposedly serves pretty good dog dishes.  Yellow in particular was very excited about this.  To our dismay (or Red's relief) it apparently wasn't dog season anymore, so we had to settle for donkey and sweet and sour fish.  The idea is that as the dog is man's best friend and is warming to our hearts, it could be eaten in the winter in order to bring warmth to your body too.  A side note is that we haven't met many Chinese who actually eat dog, and several of our students were quite terrified when they heard that we had tried, so don't be confused that its an everyday dish.  It's actually quite expensive too, and who knows where the dog is coming from (maybe just from the street).

Here's the sweet and sour fish, which was quite delicious!

This is the donkey dish, which was really spicy and not too bad.

Here we are trying donkey for the first time.

Crazy Market in Hankou

Here are some pictures of our visit to the "crazy market".  This market is never ending.  There are mazes of stores that go on and on, and it's quite easy to get lost.  We went on a very rainy day, but were able to keep pretty dry.  The market has sections with a concentrations of similar items, but the quantity of stuff is pretty impressive. This is also the day that we found the yarn market, so Red was very happy about that.

Dragon Fruit

Here in China we have discovered many new fruits and vegetables. We actually had dragon fruit for the first time in Thailand, but can find it here as well.  We find its name quite fitting.  It's very easy to peel, has a texture close to a kiwi, but it's pretty bland with a mild sweetness.

Spring Cleaning

We finally took the time and built up the courage to clean the icky mold that has been growing on our ceiling close to our front window.
