Dragon Fruit

Here in China we have discovered many new fruits and vegetables. We actually had dragon fruit for the first time in Thailand, but can find it here as well.  We find its name quite fitting.  It's very easy to peel, has a texture close to a kiwi, but it's pretty bland with a mild sweetness.

Spring Cleaning

We finally took the time and built up the courage to clean the icky mold that has been growing on our ceiling close to our front window.

Wuhan Citizen's Home

You may not have guessed by the name, but we had to go here to register for our residency cards.  Later on campus someone was taking a poll from foreigners asking if they should change the name of this building, and what we think of when we hear "citizen's home". Either way, it is a pretty impressive building.

Wuhan Library

Around the city of Wuhan you can find these kinds of "vending machines", which allow you to check out and return books from many different places in the city.  We've seen them around a lot and even at a metro station.

A Restaurant on the Water

 

After visiting the botanical gardens, LJ took us to a beautiful restaurant that was actually sitting on East Lake.  These people enjoyed taking several pictures of Steph, who is extremely blonde; so we decided to get a snapshot of them too.

 

  

We were even serenaded by some traditional music. It was quite lovely. 

 

Botanical Gardens

After getting our medical exams in Wuchang for our residency cards, LJ took us and our co-worker and friend, Steph, to a botanical gardens here in Wuhan.  The gardens were right on East Lake which is the largest city lake in China.

This is the Plum Blossom, which is the city flower of Wuhan and blooms in January and February. For that reason its called the winter flower.  We went in the end of February, so we were just in time to see it. 

 

There was a very large indoor orchid garden. I'm not sure if we've ever seen so many orchids in one place. 

 

There were also many ponds and creeks running through the gardens with several gazebos to sit and reflect.
