Going to a Soccer Game

One of Yellow's students gave us some of her season tickets to see Wuhan's soccer team play against Guangzhou.  The end score was Wuhan - 0 and Guangzhou - 2.  The first half of the game was quite exciting, but Wuhan started to fall apart after that.

At the end of the game the fans were so angry that they started throwing their bottles at the field, which was very close to the police man guarding the field.

The Trash Monster

Those of you who know Yellow, know that he has some special habits. Since we've been in China, he has taken to collecting tops to bottles.  This is now widely known about him and there was even a time when people around town would save tops for him.  He has some ideas about what he's going to do with them, but we will see what kind of project emerges.

From time to time the recycling will be dumped out on the lawn in front of our building, and here are some pictures of what Red found outside the window one day.

Hubu Xiang

We went to one of the most popular and touristy "snack streets" it Wuchang during one of the holidays, which means that it was even more packed than it is normally.

This is snack called doupi.  It's a sticky rice and egg cake usually eaten for breakfast.  Greasy and good!

Tea Tasting

A Chinese friend of ours was so kind to take a group of us to her friend's shop to taste tea.  It was quite the experience.  In the end we tried at least 6 different kinds of tea and now have a little better understanding of tea culture.

This is the tea market.

We sat around a little table that had this set up.

These are our cute friends Emma and Steph.

Maybe we've had too much tea at this point.

Easter Sunday

For Easter we had a picnic in a park with our foreign fellowship.  We ate lots and played soccer and some other sports.  It was a good time.

An Attempt to Eat Dog

We went with some friends to a restaurant that supposedly serves pretty good dog dishes.  Yellow in particular was very excited about this.  To our dismay (or Red's relief) it apparently wasn't dog season anymore, so we had to settle for donkey and sweet and sour fish.  The idea is that as the dog is man's best friend and is warming to our hearts, it could be eaten in the winter in order to bring warmth to your body too.  A side note is that we haven't met many Chinese who actually eat dog, and several of our students were quite terrified when they heard that we had tried, so don't be confused that its an everyday dish.  It's actually quite expensive too, and who knows where the dog is coming from (maybe just from the street).

Here's the sweet and sour fish, which was quite delicious!

This is the donkey dish, which was really spicy and not too bad.

Here we are trying donkey for the first time.

Crazy Market in Hankou

Here are some pictures of our visit to the "crazy market".  This market is never ending.  There are mazes of stores that go on and on, and it's quite easy to get lost.  We went on a very rainy day, but were able to keep pretty dry.  The market has sections with a concentrations of similar items, but the quantity of stuff is pretty impressive. This is also the day that we found the yarn market, so Red was very happy about that.
